Seattle -- a reception at a private residence

Here he's reacting to Ansel Adams cultists, who were damning documentary photography, photojournalism and therefore implicitly Smith himself for "politicizing art." (Alas, the always vindictive Adams cult remains the dominant faction of the Seattle photo scene.) This was undoubtedly one of the best frames of the entire four-take shoot, which is why I decided to publish it despite the specks of fire damage. Was working with a pair of M Leicas, 35 f/2 Summicron on one, 50 f/2 Summicron on the other, the film Tri-X (of course), pushed to 800 ASA in D-76.
